Apple’s next-generation iPhone could take a major step forward in battery capacity. According to a new leak from Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to feature the largest battery ever used in an iPhone.

If accurate, the upgrade would signal a noticeable shift in Apple’s priorities, as battery life has become one of the most requested improvements among power users, especially as on-device AI and heavier workloads continue to grow.

Battery capacity could cross the 5,000 mAh

According to the leaker, Apple is planning a battery capacity exceeding 5,000 mAh for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Sources within the supply chain claim that the Chinese version of the device will feature a battery rated at around 5,000 mAh, while global variants could receive a slightly larger cell in the 5,100–5,200 mAh range.

If confirmed, this would mark a new record for Apple’s smartphone lineup and represent a significant jump compared to previous generations.

A trend that’s already in motion

This move wouldn’t come out of nowhere. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, at least in its eSIM-only configuration, is already rumored to include a 5,088 mAh battery – a notable increase over earlier models.

Rather than focusing solely on raw capacity, Apple has also emphasized efficiency gains. The upcoming A20 Pro chip, expected to be built on a 2nm process, could further improve battery life by reducing power consumption while maintaining high performance.

Bigger battery, Bigger phone

The battery upgrade may come with trade-offs. Rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max could become the thickest and heaviest flagship Apple has ever released, with a weight reportedly exceeding 240 grams.
