Apple may finally bring MagSafe to its cheapest iPhone. The iPhone 17e is expected to launch with the A19 chip, familiar design, and the same $599 price.
Apple is set to address a long-standing complaint about its most affordable iPhone: the lack of MagSafe support.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPhone 17e, expected to be announced on February 19, will add MagSafe—a feature missing from the current iPhone 16e and one that many users rely on for wireless charging and accessories.
Internally, the iPhone 17e is expected to run on Apple’s A19 Bionic, the same chip used in the standard iPhone 17. Apple is also continuing its move toward in-house components, with C1X and N1 chips handling cellular and wireless connectivity, a shift aimed at tighter hardware integration and improved efficiency.
In terms of design, Apple appears to be playing it safe. The iPhone 17e is said to retain the familiar notch display, sticking with a design introduced during the iPhone X era rather than adopting the Dynamic Island found on higher-end models.
Pricing may be the most notable part of the update. Gurman reports that Apple plans to keep the starting price at $599, matching the iPhone 16e. If accurate, that would make the iPhone 17e one of the few entry-level iPhones to gain MagSafe without a corresponding price increase.
